About the Permian Basin Local Section

The Permian Basin Local Section of the American Chemical Society (ACS) was chartered in 1959 to serve the needs of ACS members in west Texas. The Permian Basin section comprises 12 counties in West Texas: Andrews, Brewster, Crane, Ector, Glasscock, Howard, Martin, Midland, Pecos, Scurry, Sterling, Tom Green, Ward, and Winkler, and 1 county in New Mexico:  Lea County.  The universities in the region are Angelo State University in San Angelo, The University of Texas of the Permian Basin in Odessa, Midland College in Midland, and Sul Ross State University in Alpine. Many of the local section activities are associated with the student members at the universities although we are trying to provide more activities for our non-university members.
