247th National Meeting, Dallas, March 2014

Faculty and students from Angelo State University (ASU) and the University of Texas Permian Basin (UTPB) attended the 247th National Meeting of the American Chemical Society (ACS) in Dallas, March 14-20. In total, six faculty and eighteen students attended.

Nine students from the ASU Student Chemistry Chapter, Ivan Pena, Blake Holle, Ana Allen, Jason Livingstone, Marissa Saulnier, Alexis Mobley, Christian Herrera, Brandon Allen, Josh McGuire, and their faculty advisors, Dr. Edith Osborne, Mr. Kevin Boudreaux attended the 247th ACS National Meeting and Exposition in Dallas, Texas, from March 15 to March 18. Dr. Chris Hobbs and Dr. Ralph Zehnder also attended with their research students, Binhong Lin, Adrian Hernandez, and Matthew Smith.The student chapter received a Green Chemistry award and a Commendable chapter award at the Student Chapter Awards Ceremony on March 14 for the chapter’s activities during the 2012-2013 academic year. The chapter students took part in the Chem Demo Exchange, with a demonstration of the water solubility and biodegradability of starch-based packing peanuts. The chapter students presented three research posters at the Undergraduate Research Poster Session on March 15, and a chapter activity poster at the Sci-Mix on March 15. Dr. Hobbs’ and Dr. Zehnder’s research students presented two research posters.

Six students from the Midland College student chapter of the ACS, Staley Anderson, Thomas Weathers, Clarissa Estrella, Yung Wang, Xuan Ding, and Virginia Anderson, and their faculty , Dr. Pat Nandakumar and Mr. John Anderson attended the 247th ACS National Meeting and Exposition in Dallas, Texas, from March 15 to March 18. The student chapter received an Honorable Mention chapter award at the Student Chapter Awards Ceremony on March 14 for the chapter’s activities during the 2012-2013 academic year. The students presented two research posters at the Undergraduate Research Poster Session on March 15, and a chapter activity poster at the Sci-Mix on March 15.
